James‬ ‭1:19‬ Daily Devotional

“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry…”

James‬ ‭1:19

James‬ ‭1:19‬ Devotional Observations and Applications:

In all things, we should first seek to listen and hear other people out. Only once we truly understand, then we should speak. Very rarely should we become angry with another person.

In my experience, a lot of conflicts are caused by simple misunderstandings. Avoid this by slowing down and really listening to what another person has to say. We can go a step further and just give a person the benefit of the doubt. In most cases, that person did not mean to offend you. Seek to understand what they’re really saying and where they’re coming from, then speak.

Help me to be a good listener. Whenever I find myself becoming angry, slow me down so I can truly listen. When I do speak, give me grace to do it well. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
