James 1:22-24 Daily Devotional
“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.”
– James 1:22-24
James is challenging us to not just listen and study but to actually do. Our faith is incomplete without action. Listening to the word is a good thing, and we should do that often, but listening only isn’t enough.
This verse is a call to action, so it is an application. Do the stuff. Don’t wait around and just listen. Hear what God has to say and then do what he says. It doesn’t even have to be complicated, and you don’t need to hear the audible voice of God to know what to do. He told us what to do and some people wrote it down thousands of years ago for us. When in doubt, go out and make disciples.
Thank you for your teachers, Lord, for they help me to understand your word. Help me to do more than listen, though. I want to go out and do the stuff the Bible talks about. I need your strength to do that. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
