Luke 9:23-24 Daily Devotional
Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.”
– Luke 9:23-24
Following Jesus has some counterintuitive pieces. To be Jesus’ disciple means to not lift yourself up, but to deny yourself – to be crucified with Christ daily. Unless we wholly give our lives to Christ, we will lose them, but we save ourselves by selflessly putting our lives in Jesus’ hands.
This verse is all application. To be Jesus’ disciple, we must pick up our crosses and deny ourselves while giving our lives to Jesus.
Lord, show me what it means for me to pick up my cross. I entrust my life to you, so lead me in the way of your grace and selflessness. I offer you my life. Use it to accomplish your mission of bringing heaven to earth. Help me to always put others before myself. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
