‭‭James‬ ‭1:22-24‬ Devotional

‭‭James‬ ‭1:22-24‬ Daily Devotional

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

‭‭– ‭‭James‬ ‭1:22-24‬

Observations:

“The word” here must be referring to the gospel, since there wasn’t any “New Testament” at the time James’ letter was written. Either way, listening is not enough. This is a gospel of action. Listening without doing requires you to go back to basics as soon as you learn something, just like a person who forgets what they look like has to keep checking a mirror right after walking away.

Applications:

There’s an easy application here. Do what Jesus says. Love others and make disciples. These are the actions the gospel requires.

Prayer:

I want to be your hands and feet. Help me to serve others and live out your gospel. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
