John 3:14-15 Daily Devotional
Jesus is tying his death on a cross to an Old Testament story everyone present would be intimately familiar with. When the Israelites were wandering in the desert, they were afflicted by venomous snakes. In order to survive, they needed a way to be healed from the venom that the snakes would inject into them. The Lord commanded Moses to make a snake and stand it up in the camp so that when people were bitten, they could look at the statue and be saved. Just as the snake meant salvation from certain death, Jesus meant a path to eternal salvation and life after death.
