Hosea 6:6 Daily Devotional

“For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.”

Hosea 6:6

This was written during a time when Israel believed the only way to achieve holiness was through animal sacrifice. What this is saying is God takes more pleasure when we have mercy on one another rather than when he receives the best burnt offering.

Hosea 6:6 Devotional Application:

Sacrifices and burnt offerings don’t mean much to us anymore, but the point remains: Do everything in your power to have mercy on one another. Forgive first. Be the first to apologize. Extend grace.

Prayer:

Help me to be merciful and show grace and forgiveness to those around me. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
