1 Peter 1:3 Daily Devotional
It seems the natural response to God sending Jesus is praise, which makes sense. Jesus, who died for our sins and rose again for us to be in a relationship with God, paid it all, so it’s reasonable for us to praise God.
It’s not just that Jesus died for us, but he gave us new life through a “new birth.” That “new birth” is represented in baptism, but is really just a change of heart. Changing from how we once were and following Jesus into how we’re supposed to be.
Since the old is gone, we must do our best to drop the old life as well. What we used to do is no longer compatible with who we are. This is, of course, easier said than done, but that doesn’t make the cause any less worthy. Following Jesus comes with its own set of habits that act to counteract our sinful habits.
For example, prayer takes place of complaining. Generosity takes place of selfishness. Encouragement takes the place of gossip. The list really is endless.
Thank you for your sacrifice, Jesus. Help me to use the new life you’ve given me to make the biggest impact I can. Help me to pray, not complain. Help me to be generous, not stingy. Help me to be an encourager, not a gossiper. I want to take on these new habits that create positive change for the world. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
