1 Timothy 2:5 Daily Devotional
Paul, the author of this letter to Timothy, is making the simple claim that there is only one God. Beyond that, there is only one person who could restore the relationship with God and Israel and bring salvation to the rest of the world. And that is Jesus.
The application to this is simple: Pray to Jesus. Jesus is the one who mediates between us and God; he also intercedes on our behalf. That’s right, Jesus prays for you. He prays for you directly to the Father, who knows what you need. When you don’t know what to say while praying, simply ask the Holy Spirit to come and then listen.
Prayer is simply talking to Jesus. It’s a conversation. Tell him about your day. You didn’t sleep great? Tell him. Worried about money? Tell him. Want kids but haven’t been able to conceive? Tell him. It doesn’t matter how big or how small, just tell him.
May I be bold in my prayers, Jesus. You came to make me right before God, and I thank you for that. Help me to know what to pray and to experience you in a new and fresh way today. I give you my small concerns and my major anxieties. I give you all of me. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
