1 John 1:9 Daily Devotional
1 John 1:9 Devotional Observations:
Forgiveness of sins starts with the confession of sins. You have to recognize that you messed up or fell short in order to have forgiveness. Without that step, it would be impossible to forgive because there would be no apparent thing to forgive. You can’t forgive what you’re not aware of.
The confession of sin should never lead to shame. The next part of the verse talks about how faithful God is to forgive and purify after the confession. That means the confession is simply an acknowledgment of wrongdoing rather than a means of condemnation.
1 John 1:9 Devotional Applications:
Confess sins. Confess to one another, and confess to God. It’s important to get it out there. If nothing else, you have a starting point in being delivered from that sin. But God promises so much more than that. In that confession, you’re promised to see the faithfulness and justice of God and his forgiveness and purification.
We all mess up; we all sin. There’s not one person who hasn’t fallen short of the glory of God. Confessing that is not easy, and it probably never gets easier. However, it’s through confession that God is proven faithful to forgive.
Thank you for your forgiveness. Though I fall short, I know I can seek your forgiveness over and over. Help me to not take that for granted. Whenever I sin, help me to confess to trusted confidants and to you so I can start the journey of healing in the promise of your forgiveness and purification. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
