Colossians 4:2 Daily Devotional
The Apostle Paul is calling us to not just pray and make our requests known to God and then move on. No, he’s telling us that when we pray that we should be watching what God does when he moves. Whether he moves or not – whether he answers our prayers are not – we are still to be thankful because of all he’s done for us already.
Sometimes when I pray, I just say the words and then move on with my life. That’s not how we should pray according to Paul. It’s important to have some follow up. Let’s watch what God is doing while we pray and afterwards. Let’s be thankful to God no matter the outcome of our prayers. These are practical things we can start doing the next time we pray.
You can keep track of what you’re thankful for in a journal. I do this in a daily journal where I write out at least three things I’m thankful for. Journaling helps in being watchful, too. I have a 5-year journal that I write in every day to track what God’s been doing in my life over a longer period of time. These are just a few practical examples of what you can do starting right now.
Jesus, I’m thankful. I’m grateful for all you’ve done in my life so far, and I’m expectant for the things you’re going to do in my life in the future. Help me to always pray. Beyond that, help me to be “watchful and thankful” as I pray. I know you will move now because I have seen you move in the past. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
