Proverbs 22:6 Daily Devotional
This verse doesn’t specify the way children should go, just that we’re to teach them which way to go. That could be frustrating for some who want precise directions, but that’s just not how it works. Choosing the right way is important, though, because once they learn it, they will never turn from it.
I’m not a parent, so take this application with a grain of salt. Though the author of this proverb doesn’t specify the way a child should go, the themes throughout the Bible should be an indication. We’re to raise our children in the way of righteousness, teaching them to be good neighbors to the people around them. We do this by modeling what a good neighbor is. Care for the people around you and show your children how to do the same. Be generous with your resources and teach your children how to do the same. Whatever you’re doing to spread God’s kingdom, take your kids along with you.
You can do this without children, too. You have people in your life, both kids and adults, who can learn from how you live. Don’t take those relationships for granted.
Help me to teach those around me in the way they should go. Help me, also, to never depart from that path you’ve set me on. I want to make an impact for you, Lord. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
