John 14:27 Daily Devotional
Jesus leaves us with peace, and he gives it freely. He doesn’t give with the intent to take back or leverage his gift against us; he doesn’t blackmail us with his gift of peace. He gives us peace so that we can trust him, not letting our hearts be troubled and not letting ourselves be anxious.
Receiving this peace can be difficult, especially when most of us are leading chaotic lives. The best way to receive this peace is to acknowledge that the Lord has given it to us freely. Sometimes that takes sitting down and just focusing on breathing for a few moments. Never underestimate the power of deep breathing and silence in the presence of God. It’s not anything complicated or hard to do. No, it’s quite simple, and our faith usually is.
Thank you for giving me your peace. Help me to live my life with the knowledge that I don’t need to be afraid. Give me the courage to live the life you’ve called me to. Anytime my heart feels troubled, bring me back to you in reflection. Slow me down, and help me to take time to breathe knowing you are in control. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
