John 10:11 Daily Devotional
This is Jesus predicting his own death and resurrection, but it goes beyond that. This is a lesson about how we should love, and this doesn’t just apply to pastors or ministers. It applies to everyone! Good leaders, good people, lay down their life for the people they love.
This sounds intense, and it is in Jesus’ case. For us, however, there are other ways to lay down our lives that don’t include a cross. It can be as simple as allowing yourself to be interrupted. I get busy sometimes and know I can be short with people who interrupt that busy time. Instead of snapping, it’s best to allow the interruption.
You can also serve self-sacrificially. Maybe there’s something you really want to do, but someone you love needs some of your time. Choose that person rather than the thing you really wanted to do. The relationship (and you) will benefit.
These are just two examples. Continue to pray through what this means for you and if there are other applications to the verse. Of course, you can always rest knowing that Jesus is the good shepherd and takes care of his sheep.
Thank you for your sacrifice, Jesus. Help me use how you loved as an example of how I should love. I won’t always get it right, but with your strength in me, I can try. Give me opportunities to serve others in a self-sacrificial way. Help me to be okay getting interrupted. Help me to rest in your love for me. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
