1 Corinthians 10:13 Daily Devotional
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
There’s a lot of good stuff here, but I think the most important part is at the end. The Apostle Paul writes that “when you are tempted,” God provides a way out. That means that temptation is a guarantee. It will be a common temptation that we can handle, but it’s still a guarantee. Thankfully, God is faithful and helps us endure it.
We’ll need to rely on God’s goodness when we’re tempted. Instead of trying to find your own way out, seek God and see what he has to say about your situation. Spend time with him on a daily basis, reading the Bible, praying, and listening in silence for what he has to say. Develop your close godly friendships, too, because God can speak to you through them. Ultimately, it’s God’s faithfulness that delivers us, not anything we do on our own.
I thank you, Lord, that you don’t tempt me beyond what I can bear. Though it may feel like the temptation in my life is overwhelming, I know your Spirit is even more overwhelming. Give me the strength needed to resist the enemy. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
