Ezekiel 36:26 Daily Devotional
This is an Old Covenant promise from God to the people of Israel. The specific promise in this verse has been fulfilled in Jesus, and that was God’s plan when he said this through the prophet Ezekiel. As we receive Jesus, our old spirit and hardened heart are replaced by a new spirit and softened heart. A spirit and a heart receptive to God’s promptings and a spirit conscious of the needs of others.
Receiving this spirit and heart is the simple part. You just need to accept Jesus into your life through the belief that he is who he says he is. We can apply this verse and use our new spirit and heart by serving others. Help meet the practical needs of the people within your sphere of influence. You can also pray for them, but meeting practical needs should take priority.
Thank you for replacing my stubborn, hardened heart with a heart of compassion and love for others. Help me to go beyond just praying for others; I want to help meet practical needs. Help me to use this new heart of compassion to recognize the needs of others and meet them. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
