How to be Disciplined [Hebrews 12:11 Daily Devotional]

“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”

Hebrews‬ ‭12:11‬‬‬

Observations:

The word “discipline” elicits a bunch of different responses from everyone who hears the word. From those learning to discipline their children to those training for a sport, discipline is a state of discomfort. It’s in that discomfort, however, that we’re challenged and developed into who we’re meant to be as people. Ultimately, when we work through that discomfort, peace is the result.

Applications:

Becoming a disciplined person is difficult, and it will be even harder if you try to do it on your own. Seek out help from trusted friends and family, and ask them to keep you accountable to goals that you’ve set for yourself. Of course, always submit your requests to God because he cares and he listens.

Prayer:

As uncomfortable as it is, Lord, thank you for discomfort. Help me to take the unpleasant times I go through and turn them into something that results in peace and righteousness. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
