How to Take the Next Step in Your Faith [Exodus 14:14 Daily Devotional]
I have a love/hate relationship with this verse. On the one hand, it’s true the Lord fights for you and there’s a time to be still. But on the other hand, verse 15 is God asking Moses why the Israelites aren’t moving, so that tells me there’s a time to move, too. Yes, the Lord is fighting for us, but we still have a part to play. Taking a deeper look at this verse, we can see it’s really about learning how to take the next step in your faith.
How to Take the Next Step in Your Faith:
It’s a skill to determine when it’s time to move and when it’s time to be still. For the Israelites, the time to be still was over. They’d been still for 400 years. Now was the time for action, and when they acted they saw one of the greatest miracles ever recorded in the Bible. This is when the Red Sea split open and they walked on dry ground.
Maybe it is time for you to be still and let the Lord do all the work. If that’s the case, take some time in silence and solitude and just listen for what the Lord has to say. Take time to pray about what’s going on in your life and be encouraged by Jesus’ presence.
It could be that it’s your time to move. In that case, ask God what your best next step is. Maybe it’s simple and you just need to start serving at church more. It could be that it’s more complicated and you need to leave that job or relationship that’s sucking all your energy away. If you’re anything like me, you probably already know what your best next step is. I encourage you to take that step.
Jesus, thank you for fighting for me. Help me to recognize when it’s my turn to be still and when I need to take the next step in my faith. When it’s my turn, give me the strength to do the things I already know I need to do. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
