How to Praise God [Psalms 105:1-2 Daily Devotional]
“Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.”– Psalms 105:1-2
The psalmist is laying out not only what we should do, but why we should do it. Praise God; give him thanks. Why should we? It’s because we want everyone to know exactly what God has done for us. The writer then emphasizes it by saying it again in the second half of the passage. What the psalmist leaves out though is exactly how to praise God.
There are a couple of ways I’d like to share about how to praise God. There are many ways to praise God, so this is by no means a comprehensive list.
- The first is through a gratitude journal. Simply take a journal or the notes app on your phone and write out 1 to 3 things you’re grateful for. You’ll find that this might be hard at the start, but you’ll start to notice small things you’re thankful for as you continue to write on a daily basis.
- The second is through prayer. Take time to thank God in your prayers. Don’t be so consumed just asking for things that you forget to thank God for what you already have.
Starting with those two applications will set you well on your way in praising God no matter what happens.
Lord, thank you for all you’ve done for me. I also thank you for all you’re going to do – all of the marvelous works and miracles you’ve done in my life. Help me to keep a thankful outlook on life. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
