How to Believe [Mark 9:23 Daily Devotional]
“ ‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”
This verse is the turning point in a father’s story of healing for his son. A man asks Jesus to cast a demon out of his kid and asks Jesus to do something if he can. This verse is Jesus’s response, and it’s an encouragement even today. Immediately after Jesus said this, the father proclaims his belief, and his son is healed.
Belief can be difficult, especially in tough times. However, it’s in those tough times that belief is most important. We can take away an application from this short verse by reading ahead a couple of verses. Our application is the father’s response. Even in our disbelief, Jesus is telling us that anything is possible for those who believe. Let your response be, “I believe.” Sometimes it’s as simple as that.
Father, I believe. In tough times and good times, I know you have more than I could ever imagine lined up for me. Help me to see you through my doubt and chaos. Give me the strength to believe. It’s in Jesus’s name I pray, amen.
