How to Overflow with Hope [Romans 15:13 Daily Devotional]
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
What is this verse about?
The Apostle Paul, the author of Romans, is writing out a prayer to a church he planted in Rome. He’s asking that they would be filled with the joy, peace, and power of the Holy Spirit as they trusted in the Lord. This prayer is for us today, too, and that same power is available to us.
How to Overflow with Hope
You can overflow with hope by trusting the “God of hope” that Paul talks about in Romans 15:13. As he’s praying, he lays out a sequence of how this works. First, God fills you with joy and peace, which only works when you trust him to do that. Then, through the power of the Holy Spirit, you begin to overflow with hope.
It’s important to note that you can’t accomplish this on your own. You need the power of God’s Spirit. However, as we see in Paul’s prayer, God is faithful to deliver on this promise to you as long as you trust him in it. This requires you to spend time with God every day – even if just for 5 minutes – and it requires prayer. Get close to God and see the hope he brings to you.
Jesus, thank you for hope. Help me to recognize what you’re doing in my life as I continue to trust you in everything. Thank you for the peace, joy, and power you provide every day. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
