How to Pray with Faith [Mark 11:24 Daily Devotional]

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

Mark 11:24 (ESV)

What is this verse about?

Jesus is teaching his followers about faith and prayer. He’s telling them to pray with faith that they’ve already received what they’re praying for, to pray boldly for the things they need. As our hearts align with God’s through these faith-filled prayers, we will start to receive the things we pray for since they align with God’s will.

How to Pray with Faith

First, we need to address that this is not a verse that supports a “name-it-and-claim-it” kind of Christianity. The verse also is not saying that you need to have “great faith” to receive from prayer, and if your prayers aren’t answered then you didn’t have enough faith. This verse is about aligning yourself with Jesus and letting your desires shift away from yourself and onto what God wants.

To pray with faith is simple. Take some of your prayer time thanking God for what he’s done (reflection), then thank him for what you believe he’s going to do in the future (faith). Ask God to shift your desires away from selfishness and onto the things he desires for you.

Father, thank you for all the times and ways you’ve moved in my life. Help me never take that for granted. I also thank you for all that you’re going to do. Give me the faith to pray for the things that you desire for me and for the world, then give me the strength to do what you desire. It’s in Jesus’s name I pray, amen.
