Bearing Burdens [Galatians 6:2 Daily Devotional]
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
What is this verse about?
Paul, the author of this letter, is encouraging the church he planted in Galatia to serve one another. It’s through this carrying of burdens that Christ’s law is fully realized.
How to Bear Burdens
Paul is building on one of Jesus’s teachings about loving one another, and one of the best ways you can love someone is by bearing their burdens. If you know someone is going through a tough time, you’re called to help that person through it. You don’t have to take on their problems personally, but sometimes just being there for someone is enough support to get them through their tough time.
Bearing someone’s burden means serving them, praying for them, and talking to them. It also means trusting that other people will also bear your burdens when you experience hardship. Life is hard sometimes, and as long as you remember that we’re all in this together, you’ll want to serve others well and bear their burdens.
Father, thank you for a community of believers around me to bear my burdens with me. Help me to help my brothers and sisters in you when they go through hard times. Give me the ability to trust that when I go through difficulties, that those same brothers and sisters will be with me, too.
