Wait for the Lord [Psalms 130:5 Daily Devotional]
“I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.”
What is this verse about?
I’m not sure about where you live, but the United States is a country all about hustle. We have such high expectations of “success.” There’s such an overreliance on work that we often forget about what the psalmist writes about here. Usually, it’s more effective to wait for the Lord than it is to act on our own. We have our time and place to act, but it should always take place after some rest and some waiting.
Wait for the Lord
I understand that waiting for anything is difficult. It’s human nature to want things and to want them now, but that’s not how God works. It’s through waiting and resting that you can experience all that God has for you. While you’re waiting, you’re able to put your hope in the words of Jesus.
Start with prayer. Especially if you have something you’re stressed or worried about. Pray that the Lord will reveal something to you in your waiting. While you’re praying, prepare. Prepare for whatever the Lord may tell you to do. You don’t want to be caught off guard in your waiting period. Once you’ve prayed and prepared, you can proceed. At this point, you’ve most likely heard or felt the Lord telling you to move in a certain direction. Don’t hesitate! Proceed knowing the Lord is with you and you are prepared for your next step.
Jesus, thank you for the waiting. Give me the courage to sit here in the waiting period as you continue to work in and through me. Prepare me for what’s next, and give me the courage to proceed with what you’ve called me to do. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
