Zephaniah 3:17 Daily Devotional [God Takes Delight in You]

“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”

Zephaniah 3:17 (See verse)

What is Zephaniah 3:17 about?

This verse is an Old Covenant promise that we’ve seen already come to light. Through Jesus, we’ve seen him as the “Mighty Warrior who saves.” Through Jesus, God is already delighted in us and rejoices over us. This verse, then, is a reminder that these things are true and that the Lord is faithful to fulfill his promises.

God Takes Delight in You

The part of this verse I want to highlight is the fact that the Lord takes delight in you. We hear a lot about how God fights for us and how he’s a warrior slaying his enemies, but I think we overemphasize this. The truth is that God cares deeply for you. He wants to know your wants, dreams, needs, and desires. He wishes to take part in your life because he delights in you, and he rejoices and sings for each of us that have accepted Christ, God’s Son, as our savior. We can be certain that our prayers are heard by him.

Since we are God’s delight, we can rest assured that he is faithful to be there with us forever. You have access to him, too. I encourage you to pray and spend time with God daily in order to utilize this access to God. Thank him for all he’s done and is doing in your life, and read your Bible every day.

Prayer

Father, I thank you that you delight in me. I don’t deserve your love or your faithfulness, yet you provide both of those things abundantly. Help me to spend time with you every day as I recognize how much you delight in me. It’s in Jesus’s name I pray, amen.
