Take Heart [John 16:33 Daily Devotional]
What is John 16:33 about?
Jesus is talking to his followers about their anxiety about the future. He’s letting them know that the things that he’s been telling them are intended to bring them peace. Jesus knows that we will have trouble and trials in our lives, but since he has “overcome the world” we can have courage and be encouraged by his teachings.
Jesus tells his disciples back then and is telling us now to take heart. All that means is that you can be courageous based on everything God has said to you. The easiest application of this verse, then, is to learn what God is saying to you. You can do that by reading your Bible and spending time with God every day. Reading the Bible, particularly the New Testament, is a sure way to understand Jesus and learn his teachings to you. In that time you spend with God, he’ll encourage you so you’re able to be courageous no matter what trouble comes. And trouble will come, which is why it is so important that you spend time with God every day to prepare for those times.
Jesus is your peace. I pray you’re encouraged by that.
Jesus, you are worthy of my praise. You have overcome the world and have become my peace. Give me the courage and wisdom to take heart in you through all the trials I may face. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
