How to Live a Godly Life [2 Peter 1:3 Daily Devotional]

“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.”

2 Peter 1:3

What is 2 Peter 1:3 about?

Simply put, we have all we need because of Jesus. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us, and it’s through that divine power that we’re given the things we need to live a holy and acceptable life. This requires knowledge of Jesus, though, so there are some people who don’t have this right now. It’s our responsibility to share the good news that this power is available. That’s what Peter means when he says we’ve been called. The call he’s talking about is sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.

How to Live a Godly Life

Recognizing God’s power in your life is the first thing you need to do to live a godly life. If you’ve received Jesus as your savior, that power is available right now. It’s the power that helps you live each day and discern good from evil.

Once you have knowledge of that power, you can utilize it to do the things that Jesus did. Pray for others and meet their practical needs. Serve your neighbors and strangers. Give generously and without compulsion. You can see all the examples of how Jesus lived by reading the New Testament. Read a little bit each day and see how you need to adjust your life to match Jesus’s life.

Jesus, thank you for giving me your power through the gift of the Holy Spirit. Help me to discern how to use that power to serve the people around me. Give me opportunities to do the things you’ve called me to do. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
