Return to God [Joel 2:12 Daily Devotional]
What is Joel 2:12 about?
This is an Old Covenant command from God to the people of Israel. While this doesn’t necessarily apply to Christians under the New Covenant, there’s still some truth here. No matter how many times we’ve wandered away from God, we’re still able to return to him at any time. Just as the Israelites constantly found themselves far from God yet able to return, that same truth applies to us today. The key is that you actually do return to him “with all your heart” and not half-heartedly.
Return to God
“Even now” it’s not too late to return to God. You simply need to come back to him and ask for his forgiveness. No matter how many times you’ve asked for that forgiveness, you can ask again and receive it. You can do this through prayer by admitting your faults and asking for forgiveness – God is faithful to forgive. Worship is also a great way to do this. Focusing on the ways Jesus has moved in your life and continues to do so can align your heart and will with his. I encourage you to find your way back to God through one of these two ways.
Jesus, I thank you that you always take me back. Give me the courage I need to seek you in my times of trouble. Though I sin and fall short of your glory, I know I can seek your forgiveness and receive it. Help me never take that for granted. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
