Work Not in Vain [Psalm 127:1 Daily Devotional]
What is Psalm 127:1 about?
This verse is about inviting the Lord to be in everything you do. This is not an excuse to not do what you know you need to be doing. The builders still need to build the house, and the guards still need to stand watch. However, if the Lord is not present in either of those things, then the work is done in vain.
Work Not in Vain
While this psalm is specifically about building and standing watch, you can apply this to any part of your life. If God isn’t present in your family, then you’re working in vain. If God isn’t present in your job with you, then you’re working in vain. I want to encourage you to work not in vain but in a way that is pleasing to the Lord.
Invite God into everything you do, otherwise, it risks being done in vain. You can invite God into your work, family, marriage, church, or anywhere simply by praying. Spend time with God every day and ask him to be with you as you live your life. He’s faithful to be there with you.
Father, thank you for being present in everything that I do. Help me to always recognize that I need you. Remind me to invite you into my life each and every day. It’s in Jesus’s name I pray, amen.
