Rely on Jesus [Zechariah 14:9 Daily Devotional]
What is Zechariah 14:9 about? Rely on Jesus.
This verse is a prophecy from the Jewish scriptures that we’ve actually seen fulfilled. Back when this was written, Zechariah was looking to a future when the Lord will be king and his name will be the only name. Today, we get to look back and see that Jesus is now king and now his name is the only name.
At the same time, the kingdom of God is not fully here yet. So while the Lord is king over all the earth, there is still evil rearing its ugly head. Rest assured, death and the enemy are both defeated and have no power over you, but they will remain until Jesus comes again in glory.
How to Rely on Jesus
Things look different when you’re looking back at an event rather than looking forward to it. You have the benefit of knowing that Jesus is king, so you can look back and be encouraged and strengthened by the fact that Jesus is fighting for you. Zechariah didn’t have that knowledge, so he could only be inspired and hopeful about what was to come.
As I mentioned above, evil is still around, so that means you need to rely on your encouragement and strength from the Lord. Spend time with God every day; let him strengthen you as you pray to him. Also, read your Bible and let the words of Jesus encourage you each day.
Jesus, I thank you that I’m able to look back and see all that you’ve done for me. Help me to spend time with you and read my Bible each day. Give me strength and encourage me in your sacrifice as I navigate this life. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
