Remain in the Vine [John 15:4 Daily Devotional]
Jesus uses cultivating as an example of what it’s like to follow him. It’s important to remain in Jesus because he is our vine, our source of life. Just as branches wither and die when they’re cut off from the vine, we experience a spiritual death when we’re cut off from Jesus. The only way we can live and bear fruit is if we remain in him.
Remain in the Vine
The Lord promises to remain in you as you remain in him. In order to do that, you must spend time with God daily. It doesn’t need to be some long and drawn-out process. Spend 5-10 minutes with God every day simply by journaling your thoughts and prayers, talking to Jesus, and reading your Bible.
Journaling your prayers helps you stay focused on the things you want to pray for. This can be particularly helpful if you’re feeling overwhelmed and need to get your thoughts together. Talking to Jesus (prayer) helps you align your heart to Jesus’s. He cares deeply for you and wants to hear you communicate your wants and needs. Reading your Bible helps you remember the things Jesus did so that you’re able to do them, too. All three of these things help you stay tied into the vine – Jesus, your source of life.
Jesus, I thank you that I can find life in you. As a branch of your vine, give me the strength to do the things you called me to do. Help me to always recognize how you remain in me as I seek to remain in you. It’s in Jesus’s name I pray, amen.
