Taste and See That the Lord is Good [Psalm 34:8 Daily Devotional]
The author of this psalm is trying to explain how someone can experience God’s goodness. The analogy they come up with is about food and drink. God’s goodness is tangible (we can see it), but it goes beyond that. Taste is internal; we experience taste on the inside and, really, throughout the whole body. So, we can see his goodness just like we can see a delicious spread on a table, and we can also “taste” and experience him firsthand. Because of those two things, we are blessed when we trust him.
Taste and See That the Lord is Good
If you’re anything like me, it can be hard to recognize what God’s doing in your life at any given moment. In order to see the Lord’s goodness, you’ll need to ask the Lord to show you what he’s doing in your life. In order to “taste” the Lord’s goodness, you’ll need to do the things that Jesus did. Tasting and seeing are not self-centered acts in the kingdom of God. You taste and you see by doing what Jesus did: loving others. And he is faithful to protect you and give you rest through all of that.
Father, I thank you for the ability to experience you every day. Give me the awareness to serve the people around me so that they may experience your goodness, too. Help me to rest as I do the things that you’ve called me to do. It’s in Jesus’s name I pray, amen.
