Seek First the Kingdom of God [Matthew 6:33 Daily Devotional]
Jesus is teaching his followers about priorities. Instead of focusing so heavily on the things that we want and need, we should be focusing on the things of God. It’s not that we would no longer want or need those things we were focusing on, but seeking the kingdom of God first allows us to receive those things as well but with a renewed heart and purer spirit.
Seek First the Kingdom of God
To seek the kingdom of God means to do the things Jesus taught us to do. Look for him in each encounter with a person and do what he would do. If you’re like me, you sometimes miss the mark when it comes to serving people and giving generously. However, that’s the whole point of the kingdom of God. Use each opportunity as a way to bring God’s kingdom a little closer to earth.
To seek God’s righteousness means to become more like Jesus. You can do that through prayer and reflection. Take time each day to pray to the Lord and ask him to show you who you’re supposed to be. He’s designed you to be unique, and it’s that uniqueness that will allow you to serve the Lord in a way that only you’re able to. Regardless of your unique call, to seek God’s righteousness means to strive to love others.
Jesus, thank you for your generosity. Help me to seek your kingdom for the rest of my life. Give me strength to serve others and to love well. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
