Hold Your Tongue [Proverbs 17:28 Daily Devotional]
The message of this proverb is poetic but it’s quite clear. We need to be slow to speak. Wisdom isn’t always having something to say, but rather it’s knowing when to say something.
Hold Your Tongue
This proverb is an application in itself. Do you want to be wise? Keep silent. Do you want to be seen as discerning? Hold your tongue.
This doesn’t mean you should never talk, but it does mean that you should learn to know when to talk. Choose your words and the timing of those words carefully to avoid appearing foolish.
Father, thank you for the power you’ve given me to choose when and how to say something. Help me to be wise in how I speak and to be quick to listen and slow to speak. It’s in Jesus’s name I pray, amen.
