Fulfilling Your Purpose [Philippians 2:13 Daily Devotional]
Paul, the author of this letter to the church in Philippi, is simply saying that it’s God working in us that leads us to do his will. He gives us the strength and the will to act and do the things he’s called us to do. The purpose for this is to “fulfill his good purpose.” In other words, he works through us to accomplish the things he’s created us to do.
Fulfilling Your Purpose
God has called you to a unique purpose. I know sometimes it can feel like that purpose is too overwhelming for you to accomplish. Luckily, this verse is telling you what to do when that happens: rely on God. The way you fulfill your purpose is by letting God do the work, as Paul says he will do in this verse. In order to rely on God, you need to learn to trust him fully, even in the circumstances that try to convince you that the Lord is not trustworthy.
You can do learn to rely on God by spending time with him daily, praying, and reading your Bible. Each of those things helps you surrender your heart and mind to the will of God. You learn to experience the Lord’s presence when you spend time with him every day. You learn about what his will is through reading the works of Jesus. And you can hear his voice (maybe not audibly) through prayer and listening in silence.
Jesus, thank you for the purpose you have for me. Help me to get closer to you so I can fulfill the purpose you’ve given me. Give me the strength to not only accomplish that purpose but to rely on you for the fulfillment of that purpose. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
