Be Encouraged [Joshua 1:9 Daily Devotional]

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9

This is a promise from God to an Old Testament figure named Joshua. While this promise is from an Old Covenant, this promise is still true today. The Lord still prompts us to do things, and he still gives us strength and courage to accomplish those things. So, we can rest assured that the Lord is with us no matter where we are or where we go.

Be Encouraged

God encourages you the same way he’s encouraging Joshua here. If you’re like me, you have a list of things you want to accomplish. However, some of those things are dreams that God has put in your heart that you’re afraid to get started on. But hasn’t God commanded you? So go and be strong and courageous just as God commanded Joshua to be.

Regardless of your fear, the important part is just taking the next small step, and, in most cases, you’ll know what that step is. But when you don’t, take a few moments and listen for God to prompt you in that direction.

Prayer

Father, thank you for giving me strength and courage. Help me accomplish the things that you’ve called me to do. When I’m lost or I forget my next step, bring me back to you and refresh me in my journey. It’s in Jesus’s name I pray, amen.
