God Lives in Us [1 John 4:15 Daily Devotional]

“If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God.”

1 John 4:15

This verse is encouragement from one of Jesus’s followers to the ancient Church. Fortunately for us, this encouragement still stands today. John, the author, is simplifying faith for us even further than it’s already been simplified. The only way we’re able to acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God is by having God living in us and us in God. There is no other way.

God Lives in Us

Applying this verse is simple, but it is challenging: Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead. You can only truly do that if you’re in God and God is in you. If you have trouble believing that but want to, I encourage you to get read your Bible, pray, serve others, give generously, and be a part of your local church. I believe being in a community of believers is the best place for those who doubt to be. Doubt is not inherently a bad thing, but what you do with that doubt determines what kind of person you’ll be. I beg of you, be the kind of person who seeks God.

Jesus, thank you for this simple faith. Help me to pursue you even through my doubt. Give me the wisdom to seek out a good, Christian community as I pursue you and the calling you have on my life. Give me the strength to wrestle with my doubt and come out a better person because of it. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
