The House of the Lord [Psalm 23:6 Daily Devotional]

“Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

Psalm 23:6

“The house of the Lord” in the context of Jewish Scripture refers to the temple. In modern-day terms, this could also be used in place of the church. Here’s the kicker, though. You are now God’s home. Because of Jesus’s sacrifice, God through the Holy Spirit now lives in us. So, we are now his dwelling place. He’s not necessarily found in one specific building or another. But he’s found wherever you and I are.

How to Be the House of the Lord

It’s a great honor to be the Lord’s dwelling place, so I know you’ll want to make sure you do it right. The best way to do that is to take care of yourself spiritually, emotionally, and physically.

Take care of yourself spiritually by reading your Bible and getting involved in your church. Do this by serving others and give generously, and you’ll grow spiritually.

Take care of yourself emotionally by joining a small group or getting into counseling. Use the resources available to you to help renew your mind in Christ. Talking about what’s on your mind is a sure way to grow emotionally, too.

Lastly, take care of yourself physically by getting enough sleep, eating right, and exercising. This doesn’t seem spiritual, but when you take care of what God has given you, you become a better dwelling place for him. So, I encourage you to take control of your physical body and improve God’s home in you.

Prayer

Jesus, thank you for making me your dwelling place. Help me to take care of myself spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Also, give me the strength to love you with everything I am. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
