Ask and You Shall Receive [Matthew 7:7 Daily Devotional]

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

Matthew 7:7

Jesus is telling his followers, including us today, that when we ask for thing things we want. When we seek the things we need or knock for new opportunities, Jesus is faithful to help us find what we’re looking for. Of course, that won’t always look how we want it to look, but God will always give us what we actually need rather than what we think we need.

How to Ask and Receive

This verse is an application in itself. If you want something, ask for it! God gives good gifts to his children. If you’re looking for something, seek it out! God will help you find it, but it may not be in the form you expected. If you need new opportunities, knock on the door, and God will open them to you. It’s then your job to enter the door.

First, note that these are all active. God wants you to make the first move. He also doesn’t want you to be still when it comes to your wants and desires. Yes, ask him for anything and everything, but also do the stuff. You’ve got to be the one who goes knocking on the doors of opportunity – he won’t do it for you.

It’s also important to note that God is not a genie, though. You can ask for everything you want or desire, but your wish isn’t his command. He will answer your prayers in ways you don’t expect and in ways that fulfill his purpose and brings glory to his name.

Prayer

Jesus, thank you for being so generous. Help me to always seek you out when I need something. Align my heart to your purpose, and continue to open up opportunities for me. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
