How to Profess Your Faith [Romans 10:10 Daily Devotional]

“For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”

Romans 10:10

Paul is writing to the church in Rome about how to be justified and saved. We can tend to overcomplicate simple things, and this verse reminds us of that. What Paul is writing here applies to us, too. Instead of complicated rituals and ceremonies, there are truly only two things we need to be saved. The first is to believe in our hearts. This aligns our hearts to Jesus and brings us justification. The second is to profess with our mouths, which is how we communicate our faith. Through those two actions, Jesus saves us.

How to Profess Your Faith

This verse is the application. You might feel like some extra steps are needed, but that’s just not the truth. If you believe that Jesus is Lord and are willing and able to profess it, you are saved. But this is where it all starts, not where it ends. When you give your life to Jesus, Jesus changes your life, and there are things that you’ll want to do. Having this knowledge of salvation, you’ll want to start serving your neighbors, and your church is a good place to start serving.

Being justified will cause you to want to share your faith with others. This can be difficult to navigate, so find appropriate times to share your faith with friends, family, and colleagues. The key to that, though, is to not overwhelm these people with your faith. Simply live your life like Jesus lived his and people will start asking you questions.

Prayer

Jesus, thank you for your grace. I ask that you would give me opportunities to share my faith with the people around me. Also, help me to see how I can serve my community through my church. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
