How to Have Integrity [Proverbs 22:1 Daily Devotional]
A “good name” the author is writing about here means someone with integrity. Having integrity is more important than being filthy rich. Without it, people won’t believe anything we have to say, so we should desire that sort of spiritual integrity. In the same way, being held in high esteem – being liked and respected – is also more important than great wealth. Being esteemed gives you the opportunity to help people in ways other people can’t, and having integrity means that the help you give people will actually be useful because you wouldn’t do anything to harm them.
What it means to have integrity
So, how do you become a person of integrity and garner respect from the people around you? Be authentic. Integrity in its simplest terms means that people get what they see when it comes to you. Be honest and have strong moral principles and you will be seen as someone who has integrity and is trustworthy.
By definition, you can’t fake authenticity, though. People will find you out quickly if you’re trying to fake your authenticity. So, it’s important that you are actually someone who has integrity, is trustworthy, and is worthy of respect. There’s no way to skirt around the issue so be authentic.
Jesus, thank you for developing me into the person you want me to be. Continue to give me opportunities to show up as my authentic self, and help me to be worthy of the respect of others. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
