How to Live Like Jesus [1 John 2:6 Daily Devotional]

“Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.”

1 John 2:6

John is writing to us today that if we’re going to claim to be Christians, we need to live like Jesus. If we claim to “live in him,” which means to live in the freedom of Christ, then the only way we can move forward is to live as Jesus lived his life.

How to Live Like Jesus

So, what does it mean to live like him? You can read all about it in the New Testament, but here are some highlights of how Jesus lived.

Jesus served others without question. If he saw someone in need, he went to meet that need. Sometimes he took his time to get there and it looked different from person to person, but he still served everyone he came in contact with.

Jesus prayed for others constantly. You can look through all the gospels and see for yourself that Jesus prayed a lot. He prayed both in public and private places, and he even taught us how to pray using the Lord’s prayer. That tells me, and it should tell you, that prayer is important.

Jesus gave generously without reservation. Ultimately, Jesus died for you and for me so we could have eternal life with him. Additionally, Jesus fed hungry people, gave to the poor, and cared for people who couldn’t take care of themselves.

If you and I are going to claim to be Christians, let’s make sure we’re doing these 3 things after we say it.

Prayer

Jesus, thank you for your sacrifice. Thank you for allowing me to come into your kingdom just as I am: broken and tired. Help me to live as you lived, and give me opportunities to give, serve, and pray. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
