How to Be a Child of God [2 Chronicles 7:14 Daily Devotional]
There’s a lot to unpack here. This is an Old Covenant promise that we see fulfilled today. First, we are God’s people. When this was written, God was speaking primarily to his people, Israel. Because of Jesus’s death and resurrection, however, we as now-Jewish people are also considered God’s people.
We are then “called by [his] name.” That means that we’ve been given the status of being his children. Because of that, we are able to talk to God and seek him and know that he will hear us. However, we have the command to also turn away from our dark and wicked ways. This happens when we put our trust in Jesus.
How to Be a Child of God
You can’t earn your salvation. Jesus paid for your sins and forgave you when he died on the cross. You can’t do anything to change that, but you can change in light of that fact. Have confidence in knowing that you are a child of God and he hears you. With that confidence, pray to him for the things you need. He’s listening and wants to hear from you.
You can also show your love to God by loving his people. He forgave you, so you now have the power to forgive others, too – no matter what they’ve done to you. If you feel like you’ve been separated from a friendship that you used to value, I encourage you to forgive and seek forgiveness in that situation.
Father, thank you for calling me your child. Help me to see the ways I can pray to you and turn away from the evil desires of my flesh. I thank you for your forgiveness, and help me to share that forgiveness with others. It’s in Jesus’s name I pray, amen.
