What is Your Legacy? [Hebrews 11:22-23 Daily Devotional]

“By faith Joseph, when his end was near, spoke about the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt and gave instructions concerning the burial of his bones. By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.”

Hebrews 11:22-23

Many call Hebrews 11 the “Hall of Faith” because the author of Hebrews takes time to go through many of the characters in Jewish scriptures to encourage us with their stories. This passage is just a short glimpse into what the author included. We can look to these stories to inspire us in our own faith today as well.

What is Your Legacy?

I hope you are feeling encouraged and inspired after reading this passage. In fact, I hope it causes you to think about what your legacy will be.

These people were included in the author’s sermon because of the legacy they left behind. Yes, they did great things and those things were recorded for you to read today, and, chances are, you won’t have a biographer following you around anytime soon. But it’s never too early or too late to be thinking about how people remember you.

Take a look at your life and examine what people would say about you today. Are you generous or stingy? Forgiving? Or do you always hold grudges? Are you kind or severe? Do you feel you’re living satisfactorily? If not, I encourage you to make a change.

Father, thank you for the ability to think about my legacy. Give me the wisdom to adjust my life as necessary in order to live out the values you’ve given me. Search me, Lord, and give me the eyes to see the areas in which I need to improve. It’s in Jesus’s name I pray, amen.
