How to Rejoice in the Lord Always [Philippians 4:4 Daily Devotional]
One of the hardest things we can do is to always rejoice, yet Paul commands us to do just that. This is extremely easy to do when everything in our lives is going right. But, if we’re honest, life doesn’t always go like we want it to go. That’s when this verse gets challenging.
How to Rejoice in the Lord Always
The first step in always rejoicing is to pray. No matter what your situation, if you want to have a spirit of rejoicing, you need to pray. That way your heart will be aligned to what God wants for you in life. The secret to contentment is allowing God to adjust your heart according to his will, which can only be done through prayer.
Next, you’ll want to think about things that are worthy of praise. In order to have a rejoicing spirit, you’ll need to fill your thoughts with the things that invoke joy in you. This will differ for each person, but it could be the beauty of nature or your favorite song. Maybe it’s a special moment with another person or with God that you had. If you don’t have something like this, I encourage you to memorize a few encouraging Scriptures that you can think about when you’re feeling down.
Jesus, thank you for all the things in my life that are worthy of rejoicing. I can trace all the joy in my life directly back to you. Help me to always see your hand at work in my life so that I may be always full of joy and rejoicing. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
