The Glory of the Lord [Habakkuk 2:14 Daily Devotional]
This verse is an old covenant promise that we get to live in right now. Back when this was written, the author was looking forward to a time when the earth would know God’s glory in this way. Through Jesus, however, we get to see that many people get to experience God’s glory each and every day. The knowledge of his glory and love does indeed cover the earth “as the waters cover the sea,” but there’s still work to be done.
What To Do With the Glory of the Lord
You’re living in a new covenant with God, signed and sealed by the blood of Jesus and his forgiveness for your sins. With that comes a command and an intrinsic feeling of responsibility to make disciples of all people. The author of the verse above did not have this same command, but through the grace of the Lord, you do!
In short, what I’m trying to say is that it is now your responsibility to see that the future the prophet saw comes to life. This won’t happen all at once. So, that’s why you’ve been given the great mission to tell the people around you about the love of Jesus and the forgiveness of the Father. When you do that, you help bring Habbakuk’s vision of a world covered by the knowledge of the glory of God to life.
Jesus, I thank you for the ability to spread your gospel around to the people in my circle of influence. Give me the courage to bring the knowledge of your glory to everyone that I come into contact with. Help me to live a life worthy of this call. It’s in your name I pray, amen.
