Why I Write Devotions For Anxiety
The world we live in is pretty wild. At least in the United States, we value constant movement and achievement. This works out for some more than it does for others, but regardless of how well it works for someone, this type of society leads to anxiety. This is why I often write devotions for anxiety.
I believe peace is the best counter we have to anxiety, so I compiled a list of all the devotionals I’ve written so far for easy reference. I want you to have full access to Bible verses, observations, and applications at a glance. It’s a great way to battle anxiety.
Paul writes in Philippians 4:6 that we’re to be anxious for nothing, but we should be presenting our requests to God who can give us peace in anxious times. You can read more about that in my devotional on Philippians 4:6. My goal is to present simple ways to handle anxiety in a Biblical way.
You can always find my most up-to-date devotionals on the Daily Devotions section of my website.
A quick note on mental health
Anxiety means a lot of things to a lot of people. In many cases, people consider high levels of stress as anxiety. While that may be one definition of anxiety, the fact of the matter is that anxiety is a real mental illness.
Please note, I’m not a mental health expert. As a Christian, however, I firmly believe in good, Christian counseling. Yes, pray and pray fervently and submit your requests to God. I would go one step further and tell you that if you believe you need counseling for your anxiety, do it. God gave us counselors for a reason.
Now that my disclaimer is out of the way, I pray that the posts below help you in your spiritual journey and help you find peace in the midst of chaos.
What is a devotion for anxiety?
You can see more information about what a devotional is on my page called What is a Devotional. For the sake of this page, though, a devotional is simply time spent with God. That would mean that devotions for anxiety are time spent with God with the aim to alleviate anxious thoughts.
Who are these devotions for anxiety for?
My devotionals for anxiety are for you and anyone you know! My goal is to not only provide short content for you to read before you start your day but to also help you discover how you can spend time with God each day. Beyond that, I also want to make the content easily shareable so you can be a source of encouragement to the people in your life as well.
How you can share devotions for anxiety
Each of the devotions listed above links to individual pages. Feel free to copy those links and email, text, or post to social media the ones you’ve found particularly helpful. You can also use the icons below to share this page specifically.
How you can overcome anxiety
There are many verses in the Bible that talk about anxiety and how we can overcome it. I email daily devotionals covering a variety of topics, but I try to talk a lot about how to overcome anxiety because it plays such a big part in our lives. Throughout scripture we see God telling us to not be anxious because he has overcome or to cast our cares on him because he cares.
Those things are true, but it is exceptionally hard at times. This is why I make it easy for you to get daily devotions emailed to you. You may have missed the pop-up that encourages you to sign up, in that case, you can fill out the form below and start receiving daily encouragement as soon as tomorrow.
The bottom line is this: to overcome anxiety means to trust God fully. I’ll mention again that I’m not advocating against mental health professionals; I think everyone should have a therapist. However, when you’re feeling overwhelmed, let your first response be prayer. Slow your breathing, take some time in silence, and pray. Let that be your starting place. You’ll be glad you did.
