Psalms‬ ‭40:1-2‬ Daily Devotional

“I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire [and] set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.”

Psalms‬ ‭40:1-2‬

The Lord doesn’t always move immediately, but he does hear the cries of his people. Patience is usually required. He is faithful to bring us out of our mess and put us on a firm foundation.

Psalms‬ ‭40:1-2‬ Devotional Applications:

The application here is to patiently wait on God. It’s hard to hear that the best course of action is to do nothing, but it seems that’s often the case.

Prayer:

Father, help me wait patiently on you. I have needs and wants that haven’t been fulfilled, but I know I have all I really need in you. You will never leave me or forsake me, so I wait on you to fulfill those desires. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

Psalms‬ ‭113:3‬ Devotional

Psalms‬ ‭113:3‬ Daily Devotional

“From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised.”

Psalms‬ ‭113:3

This is just a poetic way to say the Lord is to be praised everywhere and at all times.

Psalms‬ ‭113:3‬ Devotional Applications:

The application here is really to just praise the Lord. Nothing profound or secret, just praise God.

Prayer:

Lord, give me opportunities to praise you. More than through music and prayer, may even my work by a declaration of praise. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:10‬ Devotional

‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:10‬ Daily Devotional

“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”

Romans‬ ‭12:10‬

‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:10‬ Devotional:

The command here is clear: love and honor others. They in turn must also love and honor you. Paul says to be “devoted.” This isn’t a noncommittal term, but rather it is a fervent pursuit for this love and honor. Our Christian faith means to trust others to meet our needs as we meet theirs. Without that trust, there’s no way we could operate as a community of followers of Christ.

‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:10‬ Devotional Applications:

Simply put, I can apply this by doing it. I really just have to love and honor others and devote myself to that. It’s hard to put others before myself, yet that’s exactly what this verse is asking us to do. It will get easier, though. As you continue to operate in humility, you begin to develop the spiritual muscles necessary to think of others first. Remember that true humility isn’t degrading to yourself, it’s simply thinking about yourself less.

Prayer:

Jesus, help me love and honor others above myself. It can be difficult, but I know it’s worth it. It’s in your name I pray, amen.

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2:5‬ Devotional

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2:5‬ ‭Daily Devotional

“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus”

Philippians‬ ‭2:5

Observations:

We’re called to think about each other like Christ did. this is with unconditional love and a desire to serve. This starts with me (with the one), but it works best when a bunch of “one”s come together to live this out.

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2:5‬ Devotional Applications:

It’s important to think about what you think about. If I find myself thinking negatively about someone, I need to address that that. So do you. It’s not the mindset of Christ. Eventually our mindset will shift to how Jesus thinks about people more naturally and it won’t feel like work.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to have your mindset for people. Help me to see my relationships the way you would. If a negative though about a person pops up, address it in me as I strive to become more like you. Form in me a desire to love unconditionally and serve fervently. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40:31‬ Devotional

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40:31‬ Daily Devotional cover image, bird s eye view of landscape

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40:31‬ Daily Devotional

“…but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Isaiah‬ ‭40:31

Observations:

It’s those who hope in the Lord that are renewed. We’re promised strength and energy when we do. Putting our hope in anything else falls short and will disappoint us.

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40:31‬ Devotional Applications:

When we’re feeling weak and tired, we need to remember to put our hope in Jesus. If you’re like me, you’re probably almost always tired, but we can trust God for our strength and the energy we need to persevere.

Prayer:

Father, give me strength and energy as I continue to put my hope in you. I trust you to do the things you have promised. Help me to never give up just because things get hard. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
